As proud graduates of MHS, Jim and Jan Smith Pullen each enjoyed their high school experience, involving themselves in many of the opportunities provided over their four years of attendance. After graduation, Jim and Jan continued their education at MJC (now State College of Florida) which then led them to Florida State University. Receiving their Bachelor Degrees at FSU, Jim entered the field of public accounting and then transitioned into a successful 35 year career as a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley in Sarasota, while Jan became a teacher, then earned both a Master’s Degree (National Louis University) and Doctorate Degree (University of Pennsylvania) which led to have  a 35 year career as an administrator at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School, serving as Head of School during her last twenty years before she retired.

 Jan met Jim while attending Manatee High and while he was at MJC, marrying in 1975.  Often in their 50+ year marriage, the idea of creating a scholarship for MHS students wanting to pursue their education, but needing some financial assistance, was discussed. Education has been the key to the opportunities provided both Jim and Jan– and for them, to return the gift they were given, has been a dream that has now come true.   Jan was honored as our 2025 Outstanding Alumni for her Professional Achievements.
